Catania hit back to draw 2-2 at Napoli

Milan: Catania came back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Napoli in Serie A on Sunday after late goals from Nicolas Spolli and substitute Davide Lanzafame.
Napoli appeared to be cruising to victory after second-half goals from Blerim Dzemaili and Edinson Cavani. But Spolli pulled one back in the 75th and Lanzafame equalized in the 80th, two minutes after coming off the bench.
The result is a blow to Napoli's bid for third place, especially after Modibo Diakite's late winner gave Lazio a 1-0 victory against Cagliari.
Serie A: Catania hit back to draw 2-2 at Napoli
Lazio is third, three points above Udinese and Napoli.
At the other end of the table, Novara was held to a scoreless draw at home to fellow struggler Lecce, which will have helped neither side's hopes of avoiding the drop.

'Kahaani' grosses Rs 75 crore at the Box Office

New Delhi: As a straightforward, salt-of-the-earth thriller, Kahaani is unusual for its lack of a typical star cast. Its protagonist is a heavily pregnant woman in her mid 30s, the story unfurls in a city rarely used as a backdrop for mainstream Bollywood films and there is not even a lip-synched song in the narrative. Without any of the paraphernalia that go into making a typical Bollywood hit film, Kahaani has grossed Rs 75 crore at the Box Office. Let's look at the story beyond the numbers.
Kahaani, directed and co-produced by Sujoy Ghosh, was made on a budget of Rs 8 crore. Word of mouth ensured a good opening and business in the ensuing week. The thriller stars Vidya Balan, Parambrata Chatterjee and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead roles.
The crucial numbers
Released across 1100 screens worldwide, Kahaani has crossed Rs 75cr in gross Box Office collections and is still running to packed houses. The overseas business alone has beaten several bigger and more expensive films in recent times, including 'The Dirty Picture' starring the same leading lady as Kahaani (Vidya Balan). The second weekend of Kahaani just saw a 10 per cent drop in business from the first weekend of release.
What the critics said
Kahaani carried an average critics and reviewers rating of 4 stars. Imdb.com, the authority on movie ratings worldwide, has put Kahaani in its Top 50 thrillers of all time, making it the only Hindi film to be featured in this list. Ormax Media people poll has seen Indian audience vote Kahaani as the No. 2 thriller of all times for Hindi movies.
As a script, Kahaani was everything a conventional Hindi film should not be - realistic-looking to the point of being grungy and no typical masala. Kahaani is a product of Viacom18 Motion Pictures (VMP), a new age studio that backs quality content and talent.
In just 18 months of being in business, VMP has notched up sleeper super hits like Tanu Weds Manu, Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Shaitan, Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap and earned worldwide critical acclaim with path-breaking films like That Girl in Yellow Boots and Michael.
The success of Kahaani has given a boost for the prospects of titles like Anurag Kashyap's 'Gangs of Wasseypur' and 'Bombay Velvet (starring Ranbir Kapoor), Sudhir Mishra's 'Power Play', David Dhawan's 'Chashmebaddoor', Rani Mukerji starrer 'Aiyya', Ram Gopal Varma's 'Department', Akshay Kumar starrer 'Oh My God!', Ajay Devgn starrer 'Son of Sardar', Neeraj Pandey's 'Special 26', Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' (starring Farhan Akhtar), Abhinav Kashyap's next after Dabangg and a set of very talented new and fresh directors with their low-cost, high-potential films.

'Agent Vinod' makes Rs 10 crore on opening day

New Delhi: Saif Ali Khan's home production 'Agent Vinod' has earned Rs 10 crore on the first day, and is the actor's biggest solo opening so far.
Made at a budget of Rs 50 crore, the film has been shot in Morocco, Russia and Latvia.
"Saif Ali Khan has grown as an actor and also grown as a box-office power. The number of screens first decide the craze for the film and the first day business is an indicator of its strength at the box office," said trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
"The massive figures only go to show that Saif has a rare combination of talent and box office pull," added Adarsh.
Directed by Sriram Raghavan, the spy thriller also features Kareena Kapoor, Prem Chopra and Ram Kapoor. While it is produced under Saif's 'Illuminati Films' banner, Eros International has distributed it.
Saif says it was the best time to release a film like 'Agent Vinod'.
"The concept should appeal to people... it's got an exciting plot... The style, the narrative - the strength of the story and its 'Tin Tin' qualities is the USP of 'Agent Vinod'. Times have changed and so have our movies. This is the right time for 'Agent Vinod'," said Saif, who feels he has challenged himself with a film like this.
"I have challenged myself physically in roles before. One such role was of Langda Tyagi in 'Omkara'. In 'Agent Vinod', I had to be fit, very fit. I had to train hard. It was a gruelling schedule to do action. It is very demanding. I have a lot of respect for action heroes because I've got to know what it takes to be one," he added.
The theatre owners are happy with the first day response to the film and hope that it will sustain in the coming weeks.
"The response to the film has been good. We have witnessed an occupancy of about 85 percent. The action and stunts of the film are quite appealing to the youngsters," Gautam Datta, of PVR Pvt Ltd told IANS.

Afridi pulls out of National T20 tourney

Karachi: Pakistan allrounder Shahid Afridi has pulled out of the National Super Eight T20 championship, which begins in Rawalpindi on Sunday, even as all the top cricketers of the country are taking part in the week-long event.
"Not only Afridi but Fawad Alam has also pulled out of the Karachi Dolphins squad at the last moment," Siraj-ul-Islam Bukhari, the president of the Karachi City Cricket Association [KCCA], said on Friday.
AFP
"It is a big setback for us because Afridi is a top performer for us. He had initially turned down the offer to lead the Karachi Dolphins team and only wanted to play as an ordinary player. But now he has also refused to play because of some personal commitments," Bukhari said.
Clearly upset with the pull-outs, the KCCA president said Afridi had now informed him that he was committed to attend some charity event in the United States. "Similarly Fawad Alam has also pulled out because he is getting married," Bukhari added.
Afridi was involved in a controversy on Friday, when he attacked a fan at the airport here soon after his arrival from Dhaka where Pakistan won the Asia Cup.
Geo News and other channels flashed footage of an angry Afridi attacking a fan and pushing him to the ground. According to a report, the fan, who was badly roughed up, had pestered Afridi for an autograph. However, on the following day, Afridi apologised for his actions.

IPL 5: Ganguly, allrounders the key for Pune

Before putting our analytical brains to Pune Warriors India's 2012 prospects, a word for their topmost warrior, Yuvraj Singh. Down but getting back up fast, Yuvraj is recuperating in the USA from an unfortunate malignant illness. And while the team will definitely feel hollow in his absence, it could also lift them to do what Yuvraj dreamt of but couldn't in the team's debut season last year - winning the silverware.
Name: Pune Warriors India
Coach/Mentor: Sourav Ganguly
Owner: Sahara India Pariwar
Cost of team: $370 million
Key players: Sourav Ganguly – Pune's captain-cum-mentor – is followed wherever he goes. Being India's most successful skipper and doubling up as the franchise’s mentor, Ganguly commands respect. If he can back his elevation as skipper with runs off the bat, Pune could be a force to reckon with; however, that's where Ganguly's real test lies as well, at 39.
Robin Uthappa – who has been recalled into India's Twenty20 squad – has to be the lynchpin. Performing the dual role of wicketkeeper-batsman, Uthappa can be the team's energizer – either at the top or as a finisher. If he bats lower down, which is the likely scenario, Pune will bank on South African Test captain Graeme Smith for hard-hitting starts, something Smith failed to do consistently last season.
Ashish Nehra's top form in the Ranji Trophy season [14 wickets in three Elite Division matches] certainly confirms him as the leader of Pune's bowling attack. On the spin front, the legspinner Rahul Sharma and old pro Murali Karthik will be pivotal in keeping a lid on the scoring in the middle overs. Sharma was one of the very few bright spots for Pune in IPL4 and owes his entry into India's limited-overs squad to the tournament.
Strengths: Undoubtedly the allrounders. Nathan McCullum, Angelo Mathews [subject to fitness], Wayne Parnell, Marlon Samuels, Steven Smith and Luke Wright are names that can walk into any Twenty20 team. The fact that Pune can play five foreign players in lieu of Yuvraj's absence allows them to field five of these allrounders in every match. However, the absence of James Hopes, who on Saturday was ruled out of the IPL due to a knee injury, is a big blow.
Weaknesses: The team almost walked out of IPL 5 after a spat with the BCCI over the non-acceptance of their demand to add Yuvraj's price to their auction purse. Resultantly, the franchise boycotted the auction and missed out on some key players, which could prove vital in where they finish this season. Also, being the newest IPL team, their cohesiveness – or the lack of it – pushes them back in the starting grid of IPL 5.
2011 performance: Pune finished just above wooden-spooners Delhi Daredevils in the 10-team IPL 4. Of the 14 games last season, they could manage to win only four, while losing nine before a no result in the last league game against Delhi. Even though Pune started the season with two back-to-back wins, Nehra's absence due to injury and lack of coordination in the newly put-together team led to their undoing.
2012 prospects: Pune's fortunes will depend on how confident the team is after the franchise almost left the players in the lurch following its decision to pull out. Ganguly's moves will be critically followed. If he can inspire a couple of wins at the outset, there will be nothing like it for Pune. That won't only help him prove his worth in the team but will also keep his troops on their toes. However, Pune's spine in IPL 5 will have to be its crop of allrounders. Even if three of them can hit form early, the side will be in with a very good chance to make it to the play-offs.

Odisha crisis: Talks suspended after Maoists kidnap MLA

Bhubaneswar: The Maoist crisis in Odisha has taken a turn for the worse, after the two Italians, now a MLA Jhina Hikaka from Naveen Patnaik's party, the BJD, has been abducted.
However, top police sources have conformed to CNN-IBN that the Maoists faction responsible for the abducted is different from the one which took the Italians hostage.
Hikaka has been kidnapped by Maoists, even as negotiations were on to secure the release of two Italians who were abducted from the forests of Kandhamal on March 14.
"My husband used to say that he is working very hard for the tribal people and the Maoist would never harm him. I do not understand why they kidnapped him. I plead them to release my husband as soon as possible," MLA's wife Kaushalya Majhi said.
The 37-year-old MLA was on his way back to his village in Laxmipur when his vehicle was ambushed. The armed Maoists left posters at the spot demanding immediate suspension of anti-Maoists operations and release of political prisoners.
The MLA's abduction led to Opposition ruckus in the Odisha Assembly.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sought Home Minister Chidambaram's help.
"While no group has yet claimed responsibility for the kidnapping, it is suspected that it has been done by the Maoists," Patnaik said.
Angry at the sudden development, the negotiators appointed by the Maoists, have themselves called off all talks.
"When there is violation of the conditions laid for negotiations from both the sides, there is no point in further negotiations. So we suspend it and appeal to release all the hostages on humanitarian ground," Negotiator Dandapani Mohanty said.
But official sources suspect Mohanty would not have made such a demand without consulting Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda. They suspect a rival Maoists group was responsible for the MLA's abduction.
Top police sources have confirmed to CNN-IBN that the MLA has been abducted by the Andhar-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee, a Maoist group headed by Ramakrishnan. It is believed that this group is opposed to the Maoists group headed by Sabyasachi panda in Kandhanal and they also did not approve Sabyasachi's act of abducting the two Italian tourists.

Anna lacks scientific ideas to end corruption: Justice Katju

New Delhi: Press Council Chairman Justice Markandey Katju on Saturday said anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare lacks scientific ideas which are needed to solve the problem of graft.
The PCI chairman also took a dig at the media for "hyping" up the issues such as the 100th century of Sachin Tendulkar, retirement of Rahul Dravid, pregnancy of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and death of film star Dev Anand.
"This Anna Hazare movement, I have not spoken about it because I am attacked by the media as if Justice Katju is some kind of demon. I regard Anna Hazare as an honest man, there is no dispute in that. But what are his scientific ideas? I don't think he has any scientific ideas," Justice Katju said.
Anna lacks scientific ideas to end corruption: Justice Katju
Addressing the convocation ceremony of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, he said shouting slogans like 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' and 'Inquilad Zindabad' will not end corruption.
"You cannot fight corruption by shouting Bharat Mata ki Jai and Inquilab Zindabad. What will happen with shouting? People shouted here for 10-15 days and then went home. There is rampant corruption in the country and that is why there was so much support for Anna Hazare," he said.
Corruption needs a scientific solution, he said adding "what is the rationale of thinking of Anna Hazare? With due respect, I could not find any scientific ideas. These shoutings will not do anything. You have to have a scientific solution for it."
Justice Katju also flayed Hazare for his approach to deal with issues such as alcoholism.
"You say you can stop alcoholism by tying a man to a tree and beating him. Is this a solution to alcoholism? Most poor people take alcohol and country liquor because they get relief from their miserable lives and forget their miseries," he added.
"To abolish alcoholism, you have to raise the standard of their living. You have to reduce their miseries, not that you catch hold of the people, tie them to the tree and beating them," Justice Katju said.
He attacked media houses for giving "undue" space to entertainment to "divert attention from real issues".
"90 per cent of media coverage goes to entertainment. The problems of the country is not price rise, employment, poverty but whether Sachin Tendulkar has scored his 100th century. Once he has scored his 100th century, issues like unemployment, hunger and poverty are finished and rivers of milk and honey will flow here."
"When Rahul Dravid retires, it is the greatest catastrophy in the history which occurred. Rahul Dravid retired, the country is doomed. For days on end, the media hyped it up. This is your Indian media," he added.
He said the Mohali cricket match between India and Pakistan last year was also hyped as if a "Mahabharat" is taking place.
Accusing media houses of suffering "total loss of sense of proportion and priority", he targeted newspapers and TV channels for showing programmes on astrology which is termed as "pure nonsense".
Seeking to clarify his position on being termed a critique of India media, Justice Katju said he is also one of their biggest supporters.
"I took up the issue of journalist being targeted by stone-pelters in Jammu and Kashmir and the freedom of the media in Bihar," he said.
Demanding accountability from media houses, he said there is no absolute freedom in the country and every freedom comes with some sense of responsibility.

Denying sex to spouse ground for divorce: Delhi HC

New Delhi: Willful denial of sex, including that on the first night after wedding, by either of the spouse amounts to cruelty and can be a ground for dissolution of the marriage, the Delhi High Court has ruled.
Justice Kailash Gambhir gave the verdict, upholding the lower court's decree of divorce to a man having a "sex-starved marriage" as his wife refused to have sexual intercourse with him on the wedding night and making him long for it for the subsequent five months, left her matrimonial home.
"In the present case, the testimony of the husband that the wife was never responsive and was like a dead wood when he had sexual intercourse with her remained unrebutted. It is not that the husband had sex with his wife only about 10-15 times from the date of his marriage within a period of five months, but the wife's cruel act of denying sex to the husband especially on the very first night and then not to actively participate in it even for the said limited period for which no contrary suggestion was given by the wife," the court said.
Denying sex to spouse ground for divorce: Delhi HC
It cited various Supreme Court judgements on the issue and said "it is evident that wilful denial of sexual intercourse without reasonable cause would amount to cruelty."
Referring to the apex court's observation that "sex is the foundation of marriage and marriage without sex is an anathema," Justice Gambhir said, "Marriage without sex will be an insipid relation."
The high court, however, said frequency of sex cannot be the only parameter to assess the success or failure of a marriage as it differs from couple to couple as to how much importance they attach to the sexual relation vis-a-vis the emotional relation.
"There may be cases where one partner to the marriage may be over sexual and the other may not have the desire to the same level, but otherwise is fully potent.
"Marriage is an institution through which a man and a woman enter into a sacred bond and to state that sexual relationship is the mainstay or the motive to be achieved through marriage would be making a mockery of this pious institution.
"By getting married, a couple agrees to share their lives together with all its moments of joy, happiness and sorrow and the sexual relationship between them brings them close and intimate by which their marital bond is reinforced and fortified," the court said.
The high court said in matrimonial cases, more often than not it is a challenging task to ascertain as to which party is telling truth as usually it is the oral evidence of one party against that of the other.
"What happens within the four walls of the matrimonial home and what goes on inside the bed room of the couple is either known to the couple themselves or at the most to the members of the family, who are either residing there or in whose presence any incident takes place.
"Whether the couple has had sex and how many times or have had no sex and what are the reasons; whether it is due to the denial or refusal on the part of the wife or of the husband, can only be established through the creditworthiness of the testimonies of the parties themselves.
"Consequently, the absence of proper rebuttal or failure of not putting one s case forward would certainly lead to acceptance of testimony of that witness whose deposition remains unchallenged," the high court said while dismissing the appeal of the wife.
The couple had got married on February 17, 1991 and lower court verdict allowing divorce to the husband was delivered in February 2001.

Crime against women on the rise in trains

New Delhi: Despite initiating steps to prevent crime in trains and stations, there has been an increase in cases of misconduct against women passengers.
As per data available with the Railways, a total of 712 cases including rape, murder, robbery and eve-teasing were reported against women and children in railway premises in 2011 as against 501 cases in the previous year.
There were 15 rape and 362 eve-teasing cases reported in 2011 as against 10 and 352 similar cases in 2010.
Crime against women on the rise in trains
Incidentally, in order to check increasing incidents of crime, RPF and GRP personnel escort about 3,500 express and local trains.
"Currently all important trains including Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto are escorted by security men and steps are being taken to strengthen security at stations by implementing integrated security system," a senior Railway Ministry official said.
Railways is installing CCTV cameras at 202 stations as part of the integrated security system. There are about 8,000 railway stations in India.
"We are regularly reviewing the safety and security of the trains and adopting proactive measures to ensure safety of passengers," the official said.
He said anti-drugging squads are also functional.
