Gujarat fisherman nets 'Ghol' fish stock worth Rs 1 crore

Rajkot: A fisherman from Jakhau town in Gujarat's Kutch district has netted a stock of rare 'Ghol' fish, which is worth around Rs one crore. Fisherman Hasan Isha Bhaya has netted around 350 Ghol fish, the market value of which is close to Rs one crore. He got this catch during his possibly the
last trip of the season, fisheries officials said.
Ghol or Protonibea diacanthus is a type of croaker which has a big market in Singapore and Malaysia. This fish is considered amongst the most-expensive variety of the marine fish. Its heart known as 'sea gold' is said to have medicinal properties and is an important ingredient in making a variety of medicines.
Bhaya had set on his fishing trip on April 24 from Jakhau and was hoping to return after spending over a week in the sea. However, he had to cut short his trip after three days as he had already got his prized catch.

"Along with 15 other fishermen, I had gone for fishing on April 24. Generally, we return after spending 8-10 days on the sea. However, this time, to my astonishment, I found that a huge stock of rare Ghol fish got trapped in my nets," Bhaya said.
The fishing season usually concludes by May 14 as the sea begins to turn rough prior to the Monsoon and fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea.
"This was possibly the last trip of the season, which has proved lucky for me. I got such an expensive variety of fish, whose worth is in crores (of rupees). I feel good when people call me a crorepati," Bhaya said.
According to officials, Bhaya has already given the catch to the company for whom he works, which is going to pay him the money.

IPL 5: Gambhir sets up emphatic win for KKR
Gautam Gambhir scored a rollicking 93 off 51 balls while Jacques Kallis came up with an all-round show that helped Kolkata Knight Riders thump Royal Challengers Bangalore by 47 runs in the Indian Premier League match at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Chris Gayle's knock of 86 from 58 balls went in vain for the RCB, as the visitors were restricted for 143 for 6.
Chasing a massive total of 191 runs to win, RCB got off to a worst possible start as offspinner Yusuf Pathan gave Kolkata an early breakthrough when he dismissed Tillakaratne Dilshan (2) in the very first over to reduce Bangalore to 2 for 1. Virat Kohli then joined Gayle in the middle and Kohli was looking in a good touch as he smashed three boundaries before Kallis struck twice in consecutive deliveries to dismiss Virat Kohli (18) and in-form AB de Villiers (0) in the sixth over to leave RCB struggling at 34 for 3.

Fake arms deal case: Court jails Bangaru Laxman, says shun 'sab chalta hai' syndrome

New Delhi: A Delhi court sentenced former BJP president Bangaru Laxman to four years in jail in the 2001 fake arms deal case. Bangaru has also been imposed with a fine of Rs one lakh. Bangaru was convicted for taking a Rs one lakh bribe to push a defence deal in a sting operation 11 years ago.
The court came tough on corruption and said in its judgement, "Time to shun the sab chalta hai syndrome." Holding that "corruption is worse than prostitution" as it endangers the whole society, Special CBI Judge Kanwal Jeet Arora turned down 72-year-old Laxman's plea for leniency saying "we have to shun this attitude of 'sab chalta hai,' where nothing moves without illegal gratification."
Laxman was taken to Tihar Jail, shortly after he was sentenced. His counsel said they would move the high court to challenge his conviction and sentencing.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on Bangaru, who had been caught on camera accepting the money in his chamber in the party headquarters and had to quit as its president shortly after the sting expose which had created a huge political storm.
This is the first instance of a national party president getting convicted and sentenced to a jail term in a corruption case for accepting a bribe in his office chamber in the party headquarters in 2001. By accepting the bribe, Laxman had kept his personal interest above the national interest "ignoring the security of soldiers" who put their lives in danger while fighting for the nation, the court said.

Google's 'Zerg Rush' Easter Egg game kills search results

New Delhi: If you love surprises from Google in the form of Easter Eggs, then here is something new for you to play with. Google's new Easter Egg has now come to the notice, which is quite interactive. It's more of a game that lets you hit and collect scores.
No matter what you are doing, you are suggested to go to the Google home page and search for the keywords "Zerg Rush". The search results will appear, but those links/results won't be clickable. Immediately after the search results appear, a chunk of little Os from the Google logo will start dropping from the top of the screen.
Now here the real fun starts! Use your mouse to click and destroy the Os - or zerglings - before they wipe out your search results, and form two large Gs on the page.

As the game ends, users are allowed to share their scores via Google+, thereby letting their followers know that how many zerglings they managed to target.
This Easter Egg is said to be a reference to a strategy used in the real-time strategy game StarCraft, which was developed by Blizzard Entertainment.
Google's new Easter Egg is so interesting that it went viral this morning in a short time frame, and also started trending on the micro-blogging site Twitter.

US economic growth of 2.2 pc disappoints

Washington: The US reported disappointing economic growth of 2.2 per cent in the first quarter of 2012 as inventories continued to pile up and a large fall in government spending knocked 0.6 percentage points off the total.
The figure was behind market expectations of around 2.7 per cent at an annualised rate and compares with a 3 per cent pace of growth in the fourth quarter of 2011.
Spot gold hit a session high on Friday after the data and the dollar fell to its lowest since mid-April against the yen, while US stock futures pared back early gains.
US economic growth of 2.2 pc disappoints
Overall the release suggests that the economy is still on a path of steady but mediocre expansion, with growth in consumer demand too slow to overwhelm headwinds such as government cutbacks.
"The US economy remains a bright light in the global economy, although the light is hardly blinding, and also showing some signs of fading," said Chris Williamson, chief economist at Markit in London.
Consumption was resilient, growing at an annualised pace of 2.9 percent, and adding 2 percentage points to the growth rate. But investment would have been almost flat were it not for an inventory build up that added 0.6 percentage points to growth. Net trade was flat, but had been expected to subtract from growth, and may cause downward revisions to the figures.

Bachchans trust me a lot: Ram Gopal Varma

Mumbai: Amitabh Bachchan and Ram Gopal Varma have united again after a gap of two years, for their upcoming action film 'Department' and the filmmaker feels that the megastar has a lot of faith in his directorial skills.
"He (Bachchan) trusts me a lot as a director. So I think so far it has not happened like that where I had approached him (for a role) and he said no. Somewhere he knows my commitment and seriousness," Varma said.
RGV and Big B first teamed up for 'Sarkar' (2005), a dramatic thriller set in the world of politics. The film did average business at the box office.

Then came 'Nishabd' (2007), where Bachchan played the role of a 60-year-old falling in love with his daughter's 18-year-old friend. Their next venture was 'Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag', a remake of 'Sholay'. Both bombed at the box office. This was followed by 'Sarkar Raj' (2008), a sequel of their earlier film, 'Sarkar'. It was a commercial hit. However, their next, 'Rann' (2010) which focused on Indian media, was panned by critics.

Masand: 'Tezz' is an awfully boring film

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Kanagana Ranaut, Anil Kapoor, Zayed Khan, Sameera Reddy, Boman Irani
Director: Priyadarshan
Perhaps it's appropriate that Priyadarshan no longer refers to himself as director of his films, choosing instead to go with the credit "Filmed by Priyadarshan". The extent of his involvement on 'Tezz' for one, hardly qualifies as anything more than mere 'filming', given that it's an unapologetic rip-off of the popular Japanese film, 'The Bullet Train'.
Ajay Devgn stars as an engineer in London who's deported home to India when the authorities discover he's been flouting immigration laws. He returns to England four years later, determined to seek revenge for being separated from his wife Kanagana Ranaut, who for reasons unknown stays back and pines for her husband instead of catching the next flight to India and joining him there.

Masand: 'The Avengers' is incredibly smart

Cast: Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L Jackson
Director: Joss Whedon
Comic book fans who've kept their eyes peeled to the Internet for every scrap of news since the film was first announced, will be delighted to know that The Avengers more than lives up to their tall expectations. The truth, in fact, is that even if you're unfamiliar with the Marvel universe and the back-story of these superheroes, you're still likely to find yourself cheering for the sheer spectacle that's up on screen.
After successfully introducing movie-goers to Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, and Thor in previous films, the decision to get all these big guns firing as one was brave to say the least…given that each of them inhabits a different space, and comes with his own set of quirks and characteristics. But writer-director Joss Whedon, a lifelong Marvel fan, recognizes that challenge clearly, and uses exactly that to form the basis of his story – in order to come together to fight a common enemy, these superheroes must first sort out their own egos and differences.
