IPL 5: Sourav Ganguly doing a 'Korbo Lorbo' for Pune

IPL 5: Sourav Ganguly doing a 'Korbo Lorbo' for Pune
Some get frustrated, some angry, some sport a cynical smile, and he drives many of us bananas at times. Watching Sourav Ganguly play – at 39, internationally retired, nicking more than hitting – can be excruciating. But put a captain's armband on him and you see Ganguly transforming into an ageless wonder.

IPL5: RCB take on RR in crucial away tie

IPL5: RCB take on RR in crucial away tie
Having already come up second best in their home fixture against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 5, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will be desperate for a turnaround at the Sawai Mansingh stadium on Monday, when the two teams gear up for another scrap. While with four wins from seven outings, Rajasthan are placed second on the points table, the sailing has not been that smooth for Bangalore who have three wins and as many losses from their six matches.

Mumbai: Two hours in jail for a game of cricket

Mumbai: In a shocking case of inhuman treatment meted out to innocent children, the Vashi police detained six children for over two hours on Friday evening. Their mistake was that they were playing in their building compound.
The cops also detained the childrens' parents, who had come to enquire about the whereabouts of their children, and reportedly abused them. The police took this step after 40 year-old Shruti Bhatt, a resident of Sun Villa apartment, Sector 28, Vashi complained about the kids making noise in the premises while playing.
The incident took place at 6 pm on Friday when Saurabh Bhosle (13), Vikram Agri (13), Sidhant Puthalat (13), Siddharth Dube (12), Anish Khanapurkar (13), residents of Sun Twinkle Apartments, were playing cricket along with 12 year-old Niket Joshi, resident of the adjoining Sun Villa apartments at the latter's building. Bhat started shouting at them for playing there and making a commotion. Soon the children moved to the adjoining road. But 15 minutes later, two beat marshals from Vashi police station came and started abusing them.

Despite telling the cops that they had moved on the road to avoid inconvenience to Bhat, the beat marshals started verbally abusing the kids. Apparently they also slapped Niket Joshi twice. They didn't stop there and crammed the children in Bhat's car and took them to Vashi police station forcibly.
Bhosle, a student of Father Agnel school, said "Bhat came out of her flat, took our photographs and started shouting at us to get out of the building. So we started playing cricket on the road. After some time, two policemen came and started abusing us for playing in the building premises earlier. They also slapped Niket twice, forcibly packed us in Bhat's car and took us to Vashi police station. We were made to sit there for over two hours and weren't allowed to even contact our parents."

CBSE commits faux pas, calls PoK 'Azad Jammu and Kashmir' in map

New Delhi: In a major faux pas, a new CBSE textbook for class three in an Army school in Srinagar depicts the map of Jammu and Kashmir exactly how Pakistan claims it to be.
The map reportedly calls the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir region, 'Azad Jammu and Kashmir', a term used by Pakistan to describe the region.
The Gilgit-Baltistan region, which is a part of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, is called the Northern areas.
BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has said that the HRD Ministry must get to the bottom of the matter.
"The HRD Ministry must look into the matter immediately. They must find out if this was a mistake or done deliberately," he said.
"This is a serious matter because Jammu and Kashmir is a controversial topic. If wrong information about the country's boundaries is being taught to young children, then it must be stopped at once because it is goes against the good of the country."
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rashid Alvi said action would be taken against those responsible.
"We do not have information on the issue. If such a thing has been done, action will be taken," he said.
Reportedly, some Army commanders have now asked some of the school principals to get back to them with the books so that they can take a look. In the meantime, the Army has decided to write to the CBSE and the HRD Ministry regarding the issue.
The Army has been maintaining that its position vis-a-vis the issue is very clear since the Army is not a publishing authority. Also, the book was published by a leading publishing house based in Karol Bagh in Delhi, which means that, probably, the HRD Ministry is going to sit up and take notice.

EPL: West Brom grab a late win against Liverpool

Liverpool: Roy Hodgson marked his return to Anfield with a victory as West Brom grabbed a late 1-0 win against Liverpool on Sunday.
It was a sense of deja vu for Liverpool as a wealth of opportunities in both halves were spurned, while an individual defensive error proved costly as Kenny Dalglish's men yet again failed to find their ruthless touch at home.
Peter Odemwingie's strike proved to be the decider in a rare attack from West Brom who were camped in their own half for the majority of the fixture which invited pressure from Liverpool. Glen Johnson was the culprit of lackadaisical defending as the full-back squandered possession near his own box, which allowed the Nigeria international to eventually race clear and steer the ball past Pepe Reina.

Defeat for Liverpool means Dalglish's men have secured just five wins in the Premier League at Anfield this term and while the Scot will be tempted to venture into the transfer this summer in search of a predatory striker, the club will require a complete overhaul of their home form to make a substantial challenge for a Champions League place next season.
Liverpool had their first chance to take the lead after 10 minutes as Luis Suarez picked out an unmarked Dirk Kuyt inside the West Brom box, but the Dutchman screwed his shot across Ben Foster and past the West Brom goal.

Masand: 'Mirror Mirror' is a sumptuous visual affair

Cast: Lily Collins, Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer
Director: Tarsem Singh
If there's one thing to be said about 'Mirror Mirror', Tarsem Singh's campy retelling of the Grimm Brothers fairytale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, it's that everyone in it seems to be having so much fun! Particularly Julia Roberts, who stars as the Evil Queen, from whose perspective the story is told.
Embracing the part with relish, Roberts delivers a delicious performance as the vain, insecure despot who loathes her beautiful stepdaughter, and taxes the local peasants into starvation to fund her extravagant lifestyle.
Lily Collins plays Snow White, but she's no tragic princess pining in a tower; she escapes from the Evil Queen's watch, meets seven thieving dwarfs, wins their affection, and is trained by them in martial arts.
Meanwhile, Armie Hammer (of 'The Social Network') strikes all the right notes as the handsome and somewhat goofy prince, who is repeatedly captured and stripped down to his long-johns by the cunning dwarves.

Masand: '21 Jump Street' is both smart and stinky

Cast: Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube
Director: Phil Lord, Chris Miller
If movies were people, '21 Jump Street' would be the younger brother of 'The Hangover', both belonging to the same family of potty-mouthed comedies that are undeniably hilarious. But where 'The Hangover' was blazingly original and thrived on its outrageousness, this one takes a familiar set-up and turns it on its head with perceptive writing.
Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are well cast as a pair of incompetent, baby-faced cops in their mid-twenties, who're sent undercover as high school students in order to crack a teenage drug ring. The joke here is the culture shock faced by our two heroes as they discover that high school has changed considerably since the ten-odd years they were last here... so much so, in fact, that the once-nerdish Schmidt (Hill) now fits in comfortably with the cool kids, while dumb-jock and prom king-prototype Jenko (Tatum) finds favor with the geeks he once tormented.
Inspired from an Amercian TV series in the late 80s that launched the career of a certain Johnny Depp, the film borrows only the premise of undercover cops infiltrating a high school, but ditches the dramatic tone of the show for its own brand of raunchy, smutty humor complete with penis jokes, gay-bashing references, and recreational drug use among teens.

I don't want Emraan Hashmi in every film: Mahesh Bhatt

Mumbai: Actor Emraan Hashmi is Mahesh Bhatt's discovery and the filmmaker now feels that he need not lean on their blue-eyed boy anymore, as he has become a 'safe' Bollywood star and it's time they focus on potential talents like Kunal Khemu. It was Bhatt who gave Emraan his first break in 2003 with 'Footpath' where he played a supporting role alongside Bipasha Basu and Aftab Shivdasani.
But it was 'Murder' a year later that brought him into limelight.
He continued to work with the Bhatt camp in 'Zeher' (2005) 'Gangster' (2006), 'Awarapan' (2007), 'Jannat' (2008), 'Raaz The mystery continues' (2009), 'Tum Mile' (2009) and 'Murder 2' (2011). Most of his movies did well at the box office and earned him the tag of serial kisser.

"Emraan post 'Murder 2' may now look like a safe proposition because till then it was not like that. Post 'Jannat' he was emerging but still not finding takers.. people were accepting but media was not after him."
"With 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai' and 'Murder 2' he has had phenomenal success. Today he is a major star. Having created a monster we will not let this monster devour us. Otherwise what is the point of saying that we will not work with stars," Bhatt told PTI.

Rajinikanth denies '3' refund rumours

Quashing reports that he was going to compensate for the losses incurred by distributors who had released the Dhanush-starrer '3', actor Rajinikanth clarified that he was not involved in any way in the movie which was directed by his daughter Aishwarya R Dhanush.
Rajinikanth, who is currently in Kerala shooting for his next flick 'Kochadaiyaan' — directed by his other daughter Soundarya — issued this clarification for distributors to not believe in news reports that said he would step in to compensate for their financial losses.
It may be recalled that actor Dhanush earlier reacted to such news reports saying the movie hadn’t caused a loss to distributors. He had then said he would manage the problem if the film actually caused a loss.

'Agent Vinod' was never a dream project: Saif Ali Khan

New Delhi: Actor Saif Ali Khan, whose debut home production Agent Vinod failed to create magic at the Box Office, says he never considered the film as his dream project. The 41-year-old star was riding high on his solo project
before it's release, which also starred real-life girlfriend Kareena Kapoor.
"To be honest I didn't really look at 'Agent Vinod' as a dream or anything. It was a film which came with a lot of intellectual ideas. I wanted to bring a new facet of the actor in me which has played quite a few comic and romantic characters in the past.
"The idea was to play a hero of a different kind and produce a quality product. That's the kind of offering I wanted to come with," Saif told PTI. The actor, who has signed three films - "Race 2", "Cocktail" and "Judwaa 2", feels this is an exciting period in his career as he has many interesting projects in his hands.
'Agent Vinod' was never a dream project: Saif Ali Khan
"These are exciting times and there are quite a few interesting films that I would be kick-starting soon. 'Race 2' is turning out well and with Abbas-Mustan at the helm of affairs, it is going to be a stylish and fun affair.
"Then there is Judwaa 2' which is going to be quite a challenge as it gets me into an altogether different zone when compared to some of the films that I have done in the recent past. However, after letting my hair down in 'Pungi', I am confident that the audience will accept a different side of me," Saif said.
"Judwaa 2" is a sequel to the Salman Khan-starrer 1997 film.

Run 'The Dirty Picture' on TV only after 11 pm: I&B Ministry to Sony channel

New Delhi: In trouble for the television broadcast of Vidya Balan-starrer 'The Dirty Picture', the Information and Broadcast Ministry has told Sony TV that it can air the film only after prime time, that's post 11 pm. Sony was scheduled to telecast the film at noon and 8 pm on Sunday. This after the High Court had cleared the film after 58 cuts and issued it a U/A certificate.
The film, which is reportedly based on the story of late southern actress Silk Smitha and fetched actress Vidya Balan her first National Award, was to be shown at 12 noon and at 8 pm on Sunday on Sony TV. However, it is not being shown Sunday, according to Tusshar Kapoor, one of the actors in the film.
The ministry in a letter to Sony TV on April 21, said that the channel should refrain from telecasting the 'UA' certified film ‘The Dirty Picture’ during the day and evening hours on Sunday.
However, if Sony TV considers telecasting the 'UA' certified film, they should telecast it during late night hours after 11PM, according to official sources.
CBFC had advised that the film should be shown late at night when most parents are available to suitably guide their children, said the sources.
