New Delhi: Ko Ko Lay — a Myanmar immigrant living in San Francisco — is desperately worried. He can't establish contact with his family back home.

The Burmese activist says, "I called my mum and my sister and I couldn't reach them because the phone line is cut. Also the Internet is down. It's really frustrating for me."

His worry, of course, is that his family may not have survived Cyclone Nargis, but even those who have survived and who are in touch with their families are finding it hard to cope.

In the commercial capital of Yangon, rice, vegetables, eggs and petrol prices have tripled. Out in the Irrawaddy Delta, the situation is much worse.

Mumbai drunken driving mishap: 1 dead, 6 injured

Mumbai: A joyride gone horribly wrong in Mumbai. Eighteen-year-old Shivani Raut lost her life in a car crash, while six others are hospitalized. Police claims one of their friends was driving the car in an inebriated state.

The accident happened near an ATM, after the driver lost control and hit a tree, before ramming straight into a stationary autorikshaw.

Shivani Raut, along with 5 friends, was on a joyride in Mumbai's Santacruz area in the wee hours of Saturday. 23-year-old Rahul Mishra, who was driving the car, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

A critically injured Raut later succumbed to her injuries.

Oil cos may not raise fuel prices today: Sources

New Delhi: State-owned oil companies' losses on petrol sales have climbed to Rs 7.65 per litre but they may not raise fuel prices on Saturday pending a clarification from the government on duty reduction and subsidy compensation.

"We are losing about Rs 7.65 per litre on petrol and after adding 20 per cent sales tax, the desired increase in rates in Delhi is Rs 9.18 per litre," a top oil company official said.

Rail passengers to pay more in AC1, AC2 classes from Sunday

New Delhi: Passengers travelling in AC 1 and AC 2 classes in trains will have to shell out more from Sunday when the upward revision in higher class fares will come into effect. The fare is also being hiked in Executive class and first class as per the Rail Budget 2012-13 announcements.

The revised tariff will also be applicable to tickets issued in advance for journey to commence on or after April 1, 2012.

CBI files chargesheet against Jagan Reddy in illegal assets case

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday filed chargesheet against Kadapa MP and YSR Congress president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the illegal assets case.

The Central agency filed its chargesheet against Jagan Mohan Reddy, his financial advisor Vijay Sai Reddy and 11 others, including individuals and firms, in the special CBI court in Hyderabad.

Jagan Mohan Reddy has been charged with offences under different provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act. There is no allegation under IPC sections, defence council Ashok Reddy said.

"CBI has charged him with aiding his father," he claimed. In its 68-page chargesheet, the CBI has cited 263 documents and 66 witnesses.
