New Delhi: Scoring just 91 runs in seven matches, Delhi Daredevils' New Zealand import Ross Taylor on Friday accepted that though the team's batsmen have done well so far in the ongoing Indian Premier League, his own form has been scratchy up to this point.
"The team has batted well, but yes, I am out of form," Taylor said on the sidelines of a function here. Delhi's top order, led by skipper Virender Sehwag, has fired in unison to score in bulk for their side that is leading the tournament's points table. Sehwag has scored 445 runs so far, while England’s Kevin Pietersen amassed 305 before he left for national duty.
Delhi's middle order, comprising Naman Ojha and Yogesh Nagar, has got limited opportunities to showcase their batting prowess, but Taylor said the players will deliver when the time comes. "It [the lack of exposure for the middle order] has been discussed [in team meetings] and that's what we are here for. Middle order will stand up when the time comes," Taylor said without divulging much about the team’s strategy now that Pietersen has left for England.
Team's allrounder Irfan Pathan was reasonably happy with his performance so far in the league, saying, "So far, I have mixed results. I have batted well, [but] bowling could have been better. I am in good rhythm but this is the time when I need to get more wickets." When asked whether good performances in the home series against West Indies and an away tour to Australia have helped him cementing a place in the Indian team, Pathan said the efforts he has been putting in will bring positive results for him in the future. "Cementing your place in the national side is a tough walk [work]. But I know that I am heading in the right direction and am confident that only good things will come."
Delhi are set to clash with Kolkata Knight Riders at home on May 7.
