IPL 5: Sehwag, Negi help Delhi thrash Rajasthan

IPL 5: Sehwag, Negi help Delhi thrash Rajasthan
Virender Sehwag racked up his fifth successive IPL 5 fifty as Delhi Daredevils put one foot in the last-4 with a six-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium here on Tuesday.
Chasing 142 to win, Delhi started off badly as Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene fell lbw to Ankeet Chavan off the third ball of the innings. Rajasthan’s hopes of a comeback, however, were cruelly crushed by the partnership between Sehwag and Kevin Pietersen, with the former playing the role of the aggressor.

Cuttack: Deccan Chargers on Tuesday registered only their second victory in IPL 5 and team’s opener Shikhar Dhawan attributed the 13-run win over Pune Warriors India to the third-wicket stand between Kumar Sangakkara and Cameron White.
Sangakkara (82) and White (74) shared a 157-run stand, the best in this year’s IPL, to help Deccan post 186 for 4 and Dhawan described it as an incredible achievement. "It was one of the best partnerships of IPL 2012. They batted fabulously. They started off well, rotated the strike and then went for the big shots," Dhawan said after the match. "I was going well, but I would have liked to stay a little longer at the wicket. I watched Sangakkara today and wanted to score some big runs like him," he added.

Deccan Chargers won only their second game of this season’s IPL, with a belligerent partnership between Kumar Sangakkara and Cameron White ensuring a daunting target of 187 that proved to be more than enough for Pune Warriors. The visitors would have entertained some hopes while Michael Clarke and Sourav Ganguly were at the crease, with Deccan’s sloppy fielding also helping their cause, but they eventually fell short by 13 runs in Cuttack on Tuesday to stay third from bottom in the points table after their third successive defeat.

Head injury turns college dropout into a maths genius!

Washington: In an incident which appears be a perfect plot for any reality-based fiction work, an American college dropout after being brutally attacked by a group of street robbers has turned a mathematics genius.
It happened after 41-year-old Jason Padgett's brain was damaged in a brutal attack by muggers. He was left concussed after being ambushed outside a karaoke club and repeatedly kicked in the head, the Daily Mail reported.
Now, wherever Padegtt looks, he sees mathematical formulas and turns them into stunning, intricate diagrams he can draw by hand.
Head injury turns college dropout into a maths genius!
He is the only person in the world known to the skill, which experts say, was caused by his head injury. They believe the damage to Padgett's brain has left him with a "remarkable gift" for figures.
To understand how Padgett's brain works, neuroscientist and philosophy professor Berit Brogaard and her team flew Padgett to Finland to run a series of tests.
His brain scanning showed damage that was forcing his brain to overcompensate in certain areas that most people do not have access to.
Brogaard, who is based at the Centre for Neurodynamics at the University of Missouri-St Louis, said the result that Padgett is now an acquired savant, meaning brilliant in a specific area.
"Savant syndrome is the development of a particular skill, that can be mathematical, spatial, or autistic, that develop to an extreme degree that sort of makes a person superhuman," the professor added.
